On the evening of Sunday 12th February, two 4th year International Business students, Damisa Prompoj and Rasamee Madan, and two 3rd year Financial Analysis and Investment students, Tassuda Sirilerkpipat and Napat Mututanont, together with Director of BBA Program, Asst. Prof. Dr. Chackrit Duangphastra embarked on the long journey to Los Angeles, California. It was the destination for 30 universities in the largest international case competition of the year, held at the Marshall School of Business, the University of Southern California. Some of the participating teams include the Wharton School of Business – University of Pennsylvania, University of California at Berkeley, National University of Singapore, University of Manchester, Richard Ivey School of Business – University of Western Ontario, and so on.
Prior to the case competition itself, students took part in various social activities, including a scavenger hunt in Santa Monica, visiting the beautiful USC campus, and visiting various tourist attractions around the vibrant city of Los Angeles.
The case was distributed on Friday 16th February and teams were given a 24-hour period to analyse the case, devise strategies, justify such strategies financially and present to a panel of esteemed judges. The case itself was truly unique and challenging in scope, as it focused not on one company in particular, but the entire entertainment industry.
There were a total of 6 divisions, each with 5 teams. Chulalongkorn University emerged as the winner of Division B in the preliminary round and was made to present in the final round with five other top universities, winning the position of 1st Runner Up.
The results are as follows:
1st Place: Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia
1st Runner Up: Chulalongkorn University, Thailand
2nd Runner Up: University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada
Damisa Prompoj reflects upon the trip, “As a business student, being given the opportunity to participate in such a prestigious competition has already been a highlight in itself. Not only were we able to explore Los Angeles and build connections with potential future business leaders, we were able to enjoy a unique learning experience by exercising our analysis and presentation skills before a panel of esteemed judges who have had extensive knowledge in the entertainment industry. Overall, it was an absolute honor to be apart of MICC and thank the faculty, our trainers and other case club members for your full and unwavering support.”
